ESC Spring Business Advisory Council
The ESC hosted a spring Business Advisory Council meeting on April 4, 2017. Members of the AdvancED Review Team were present and the program was entitled "Spring Delights." Dr. Denise Shockley, Superintendent of the ESC, along with members of the ESC Team gave a review of the work of the ESC over the past 6 months and reported on possible programs that may be sought in 2017-2018. These suggested programs came about as a result of dialogue with stakeholders in the community. The following representatives from the community were highlighted:
1. John Gibson, Assistant Principal at Chesapeake Middle School, reported on the need for stakeholders to ADVOCATE for After School Program Funding from their state and federal representatives. Mr. Gibson read a letter from one of his students asking her state representative why school funding for after school programing was being eliminated. Mr. Gibson requested others in the community to write letters of support on the state and federal levels.
2. Lucinda Kessler, owner of Lee's Steakhouse in Wellston, presented on Reviving Musical Traditions. Ms. Kessler is an avid guitarist and teaches students in one of the ESC after school programs. She was delighted to share one of the musical arrangements that she had taught to her students. A CONTEST to identify the best and most advanced student in her class will be announced next week. The winner receives a guitar.
3. Mrs. Shadra Jenkins, Author of "Ella's Daddy." shared how the book was the result of a personal experience from her family. The book is about a child named Ella who doesn't have a father involved in her life. The story reveals how Ella responds when confronted by other children as to why her father was able to do everything their fathers could do. Her reply was, "Because HE is my Heavenly Father and He is always with me. He never sleeps and He is the LIGHT of my life."
