Travis West, Extension educator for 4-H in Vinton County, received the prestigious Charles W. Lifer Excellence in 4-H Award at the 2024 Ohio State University Extension Conference. Recognized for his nearly 20 years of service, West has enriched the lives of thousands of youth through community clubs, school programs, camps, and innovative initiatives in a rural, low-income area. His leadership has grown the Junior Fair Board to 20 youth leaders, established a residential camping program with 25 teen counselors, and developed
school-based programs, including a Teen Leadership Retreat and a peer prevention initiative. West also serves as a member of the Gallia-Vinton ESC Business Advisory Council and as a partner to the Vinton County 21st CCLC afterschool program, furthering his commitment to youth development and community enrichment. Known for his expertise in animal sciences, particularly rabbits, West has shared curriculum statewide and serves as a role model to colleagues. Dr. Hannah Epley, associate state 4-H leader, praised West for his dedication, passion, and commitment to advancing the 4-H mission.
