National Endowment for the Humanities Grant Awarded

NEH LogoThe Gallia-Vinton ESC and Ball State University collaborated to submit a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant for a summer Landmarks of American History and Culture Program. Only 10 grants were awarded in the US and the grant entitled, “The Democratization of the Automobile Industry: Construction, Culture, and Preservation,” was selected for funding. The purpose of the project, open to K-12 educators, is to create an environment where a national audience considers the car as it has and does influence history and culture. Some of the themes of the workshop include The Union Job and the Family Car, Classic Car Restoration as Historic Memory, and The Greatest Spectacle in Racing: The Indy 500. Participants will work with automotive content in Auburn, Indianapolis, Kokomo, and South Bend, Indiana. More information will be forthcoming at galliavintonesc.org to make application to one of two 6-day, place-based, experiential learning workshops for 36 teachers per week occurring June 25-July 1, 2023 and July 9-15, 2023.
