Being Informed
Jesse Weinberger - Speaker at Joint Board Meeting

It is important for members of school boards of education and district administrators to be well-informed of topics and concerns that may impact students and families. Every year, the Gallia-Vinton ESC sponsors a joint training for the school leaders in the ESC service area (Gallia County Local, Gallipolis City, Jackson City, Vinton County Local, and Wellston City) and the Joint Vocational School District to keep them abreast of current issues.

On August 8, 2018, the ESC facilitated a training that was held at the Liberty Theater Community Center in Oak Hill. The focus for the training was sexting and the profound impact that sexting can have on young people and their families. The presenter was Jesse Weinberger, a nationally recognized internet safety expert and author. Weinberger provided examples and descriptions of the adverse, even destructive, results that can occur when students engage in sexting. All of the attendees received a copy of Ms. Weinberger’s book, “The Boogeyman Exists: And He’s in Your Child’s Back Pocket”, a resource for keeping children safe while using technology and accessing the internet.
