Transformative School Health Investment Announced

Craig Wright, Governor Mike DeWine, Phillip KuhnGovernor Mike DeWine announced Ohio's $64 million investment in school-based health clinics across 20 Appalachian counties, including Gallia County Local, Gallipolis City, and Wellston City Schools. The Appalachian Children’s Health Initiative is addressing critical healthcare needs in southeastern Ohio counties. The initiative aims to improve access to primary and behavioral healthcare for families, prioritizing integration with schools as community hubs. The plan includes expanding clinics, enhancing services, and establishing family resource centers. Over 35 districts will benefit, supported by 15 healthcare organizations. Gallia County Local and Gallipolis City School Districts have collectively received $5.4 million for Health and Wellness Centers, significantly enhancing access to healthcare for students.  Wellston City Schools will benefit from a Mobile School-Based Eye Exam Unit and will partner with Adena Health Care for the use of a Mobile Care Unit which will further prioritize students' health in southeastern Ohio.
