21st Century Community Learning Centers

Funded by Ohio Department of Education

A 21st CCLC is a place that offers programs and services that benefit the educational and related health, social services, cultural and recreational needs of a community. These centers serve as safe and nurturing environments where children participate in enriching activities during times when school is not in session. The centers also provide opportunities for literacy and/or educational services to the families of children participating in the program. These programs result from dedicated partnerships among the school(s) and the community based organization(s) to meet the unique needs of their communities.

Math/Science Partnership (MSP) Planning
Funded by Ohio Department of Education “ Rio Connection: Southeast Ohio Science Partnership 
In collaboration with the University of Rio Grande, the Gallia-Vinton ESC is engaged in a rigorous and continuing professional development opportunities to teachers in Grades 3-8 of science.

Rio Connection: Center of Practice

Funded by Ohio Department of Education

 

In response to House Bill 1 that created the Resident Educator license, a cohort of 20 beginning teachers will participate in the Transition Resident Educator Program designed by the Gallia-Vinton ESC and the University of Rio Grande to offer beginning teachers a yearlong program of mentoring and support aligned to the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession. Veteran teachers will serve as mentors based on Ohio Department of Education criteria.

 

The pilot program will focus on: 1) Orientation, 2) Professional Development Goals and Action Plan, 3) Mentoring by Veteran Teachers, 4) Classroom Observation, 5) Workshops and Training, 6) Professional Development Portfolios, and 7) Peer Support Activities.

Straight A Grant      
Ohio's Straight A Fund supports ideas from local educators that promote economic efficiency and effectiveness, long-term sustainability and scalability.  Authority for the Straight A Fund derives from Section 263.350 of Am. Sub. H.H. No 64 of the 131st General Assembly.
 
The Gallia-Vinton ESC was successful in obtaining a Straight A Grant in the amount of $565,425 to help fund a shared services transportation center.  The Gallia Fleet Services project will be built on property owned by Gallipolis City Schools (in close proximity to Green Elementary) and can provide maintenance services to not only the Gallipolis City School fleet, but to other district and governmental entitles as well.  Maintenance work will be preformed by Gallipolis City Schools' maintenance employees.  All participating districts and agencies can expect reduced cost in parts and labor as a result of using a shared services facility.
