The Tiger Middle School Academy at Ironton City Schools is an enrichment program geared towards fostering the growth, achievement and well-being of our students. At least twelve hours a week are dedicated to before and after school programming. All programming is clearly designed to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate in the activities offered.
The before school program consists of homework help, nutrition and a wellness check-in. The morning session operates five days a week for one hour each day. Assigned staff work to tailor activities to the individual needs of the children participating. The after school session is a more robust component of the overall program. It runs four days per week for a total of nearly eight hours of enrichment activities. Four hours a week are dedicated to growth in the areas of math and reading literacy. Licensed instructors work with students and track progress through research-based assessments. The collected data is crucial to bridge the work during the Tiger Academy to the regular school day. Beyond the academic growth and achievement, The Tiger Academy provides a wide range of enrichment activities to promote the overall well-being of students. Some of the activities are as follows:
- tutoring services
- field trips and community outreach
- literacy and math education programs
- fine arts, drama, music
- mad scientist
- book club
- guitar lessons
- technology education programs
- drug and violence prevention programs
- sports and recreational activities
- cooking and nutrition
- family engagement events and activities
