The Ohio Department of Education was awarded a $42 million federal Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant to expand ongoing district work to improve student language and literacy development. The Gallia County Local School District, over the past few years, has been awarded 3 of these grants. The grants include birth to age 5, kindergarten to grade 5, and, most recently, grades 6-12. By securing 3 of the grants, Gallia Local became the only public school system in the state to have a grant funded structured literacy program from birth to grade 12.
